Truth #4 He will carry me.
The lie: I am not going to make it.
When I came across this verse in Isaiah, I had not started going to counseling for childhood sexual abuse and I was terrified to even dial the number and schedule an appointment. I was having awful nightmares, flashbacks, and I was a wreck.
A note from my journal dated August 12, 2012: “The Isaiah verse from this morning really struck me like the ‘wonderfully made’ verse…I kept reading it over with inflection letting it sink in and resonate to every nerve ending. I am comforted and filled with peace, even amid the extreme chaos of my firecracker mind.”
It was as if God was saying to me personally, I’m not giving up or leaving you. I am right here as I have always been and will always be.
When it is too heavy, remember I am carrying you.
When it is too dark, look to my light.
When you are tired, rest in Me.
Let me carry you.
Can you put it all down and just hold onto me?
I still wasn’t sure I would make it, but two weeks later, I dialed the number and scheduled my first counseling session. The image of Him carrying me is movement. It’s trusting Him with the next step. It gives me the courage to keep going.
Maybe you feel like you are not going to make it? You feel stuck. Don’t give up. Keep going and let the powerful truth of His word sink in. Let Him carry you. He will not let go.
And when you are old, I will still be there, carrying you. When your limbs grow tired, your eyes are weak, And your hair a silvery gray, I will carry you as I always have. I will carry you and save you. Isaiah 46:4 VOICE
Then you will know the truth, and the truth will set you free. John 8:32 NIV
